What is called new pension identity card?

  • The pensioner's identity card issued to all the pensioners, who retired before year 2016, is the one prepared as per the treasury  form 148. However a digital identity card with the inclusion of the photograph, name, address, number of National Identity Card of pensioner is issued to the pensioners who retired after year 2016 as the pensioner's identity card , along with NFC facilities.

  • Since the pensioner's identity card is valid for civil activities such as casting of vote, it is compulsory to make a complain at the Police Station, whenever it is lost or misplaced. In order to obtain a new identity card, the copy of the complain should be submitted to the Department of Pension along with a letter of request and a passport size color photograph.

  • A new digital identity card has not so far been issued to such persons but it has planned to take necessary action in this regard under future projects.

  • In terms of the Public Administration Circular No. 23/94, any person beyond the age of 45 years cannot be recruited to public service except for doctors,engineers. However special relief has been made by the Cabinet of Ministers at certain occasions and particulars in this regard are available in Pension Circular Letter of Instruction No. 5/2016.

  • A person can make a request to his/her service station for retirement from service under Public Administration Circular No 30/88. However the pension of such person is paid only on completion of 55 years of age.

  • Yes.
  • If any officer has obtained leave on no pay, W&OP contributors should be calculated as per pension circular No. 3/2008 and 2/2013 and they should be sent by cheques to the Department of Pensions.

  • Approval of the Secretary of the Ministry of Public Administration should be obtained for payment of pension after taking action as per Public Administration Circular No. 12/2011. The letter of approval should be referred along with the pension application.

  • Salaries and allowances are paid to the war veterans, who have demised or become disable due to terrorist activities, up to the age of 55 years as per CP/1982 No 305. However the payment of salary is stopped at the age of 55 years and the pension is revised as per the salary paid at the age of 55 years.  Accordingly the difference between the total of the salary with full allowances and all entitled allowances received by the widow or orphans of the member of three Armed Forces and Police before the completion of 55 years and the total of pension revised on the last drawn salary and other entitled allowances on completion of 55 years of age of the member is paid as the monthly fixed allowance. Accordingly a fixed monthly allowance of Rs. 25,000 is paid to the parents of the demised member of three Armed Forces/ Police , if both are living, at the rate of Rs. 12,500 per each. In case where only one parent is living, the total allowance of Rs. 25,000 is paid to the living person. When the member of three Armed Forces or Police, who is receiving a fixed allowance, demises, the fixed allowance is paid to widow/ orphans without any change.

    4. When the payment of compensation salary of the member of Three Armed Forces is stopped on completion of 55 years of age, the pension revised based on the last drawn salary and monthly fixed allowance.

Even if the member of three Armed Forces is married, parents will also be made entitled to the monthly fixed allowance.

  3. On the approval of the Minister of Defense, brothers and sisters below 18 years of age of the demised member of Armed Forces, who were fully depending on the member.

  1. Remarriage of the widow.
  2. In case of a male child, completion of 18 years of age and in case of a female child, on completion of 21 years of age.
  3. On the marriage, even if the female child is below 21 years of age
  4. Imprisonment of a beneficiary
  5. Remarriage of parents.
  6. On completion of 18 years of age, where brothers and sisters are paid.

  • The spouse legally married to a public servant is entitled to the rights to widows' and orphans' pension of the public servant and the absolute order issued by the court on the divorce case is required to deprive the above entitlement..

  • No. It is compulsory to obtain the absolute order after three months form the divorce. Marriages made without absolute order are  not entitled to the rights to widows' and orphans' pension.

  • Whenever a pensioner is convicted to a severe offence for which capital punishment is imposed or, to rigorous imprisonment for any period or if such person is convicted to an offence for which an imprisonment of more than 12 months is imposed, the pension is suspended. However the secretary to the ministry could decide on the pension after the date of the release from prison but no arrears of pension is paid for such person.
  • In case of a suspended sentence given by the court, the pension is not suspended during or after the period of punishment, if relevant person is not convicted for other offence.
  • The Pension of pensioner who was imprisoned for any other reason apart from above is suspended. A request should be made to Director General of Pensions to reactivate the pension.The Director Genaral of Pensions and the secretary to the ministry will decide on further payment’s and dues subjected to government expences .

  • Should have completed a period of 5 years (of service) in a permanent and pensionable post in the public service.

  • Once the pension entitlement is approved, all the payments are managed by the Divisional Secretariat and therefore all the inquiries regarding the pension should be made through the Divisional Secretariat. You can obtain all information communicating with the officer in charge of the subject of pension at the Divisional Secretariat, which pays your pension.

  • Since the revision of pension has been temporarily been suspended by Public Administration Circular No. 35/2019 (Revision I)

  • Widow
  • Widower, in case where there are no children in the family
  • Children ( Age and the marital status will not be considered)
  • Mother and father, in case of an unmarried officer
  • In case of an unmarried officer, payments are made to brothers and sisters, when father and mother have died.
  • In case where the court determines the heirs.

  • When approval is granted to the revised application (PD 6) and the claim certificate is also obtained through internet, the relevant institute should issue Treasury 79 and it should be referred to the relevant Divisional Secretariat along with other connected documents. Accordingly, the arrears and the documents pertaining to the payment of arrears of pension should be referred to the Department of Pensions. Then action will be taken to make relevant payments.
